This winter The Citizens Archive of Pakistan is recreating the essence of the historic Qissa Khwani Bazaar, which translates literally from Persian to Storytellng Market. The historical Bazaar, which exists solely as a structure in Peshawar today, used to be a commercial hub that attracted scores of travelling merchants of different ethnic groups. These traders would stop at the Bazaar to sell their wares and, while there, it was common practice to stop at local tea houses and exchange stories about their experiences over a piping hot cup of qahwa. This practice elevated Qissa Khwani from a simple marketplace into a living, breathing celebration of the tradition of storytelling itself.
