BAGHDAD: A car bomb and several roadside blasts killed four people and wounded dozens in Iraq on Wednesday as Baghdad imposed a ban on motorcycles ahead of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr.

In the deadliest attack, a vehicle packed with explosives was detonated and quickly followed by a roadside bomb near a bus terminal in the south Baghdad neighbourhood of Bayaa, killing two people.

Officials from the ministries of defence and interior, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said more than 20 others were wounded, including 10 members of the Iraqi security forces.

And on Al-Sheikh Omar street in the centre of the capital, two near-simultaneous roadside bombs killed one person and wounded a dozen others, the interior ministry official and a doctor said.

Baghdad Operations Command also said that it was enforcing a ban on motorcycles in the city until further notice, ahead of the three-day Eid al-Fitr festivities which could begin Thursday to mark the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.

Bans on motorcycles -- which have been used in deadly attacks in Iraq -- are often implemented around major holidays in the country.

Meanwhile, a farmer was killed in the central Iraqi town of Mayndili when his truck was struck by a roadside bomb inside his farm, said Major Mohammed al-Karkhi, spokesman for police in Diyala province north of Baghdad.

The motives for the attack, which also left his son wounded, was unclear.

The unrest comes a day after two American soldiers were gunned down by an Iraqi comrade following a row, US and Iraqi military officials said.

Violence has spiked in Iraq in recent months, with July and August recording the highest monthly death tolls here since mid-2008, according to figures released by local officials.

The country has been mired in a political stasis as no new government has formed since elections six months ago, and the latest attacks come a week after Washington declared an official end to combat operations here.

MIRANSHAH: Three separate drone strikes in North Waziristan Agency killed 10 people, Geo News reported Wednesday.

The third US drone attack killed at least four militants in the country’s northwestern tribal belt near the Afghan border.

The latest strike again hit North Waziristan, the same tribal district targeted in the previous two drone attacks and a renowned hub for Taliban and Al-Qaeda-linked militants.

A total of 14 militants have now been killed in the strikes on Wednesday.

The target of the third drone attack was a compound in Dandey Darpakhel village, five kilometres (three miles) northwest of Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan.

Today’s first drone strike occurred in Dargah Mandi area of Tehsil Miranshah where two missiles were fired at two houses, killing six people on the spot and injuring two others. The houses were destroyed completely.

In the second drone attack a car was targeted with two missiles in Datakhel area, killing four people.

MIRANSHAH: A US drone strike early Thursday killed at least four militants in Pakistan's northwestern tribal belt near the Afghan border, security officials said.

The latest strike hit North Waziristan, the same tribal district targeted in three other drone attacks in the past 24 hours and a renowned hub for Taliban and Al-Qaeda-linked militants.

A total of 22 militants were killed in the four strikes.

The target of the fourth drone attack was a compound in outskirts of Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan.

"Two US drones fired three missiles. We have reports that four militants were killed," a security official based in Peshawar told media.

SlimSony has released the latest version (version 3.42) of the system software for Playstation 3 (PS3) with the sole aim of adding security features, including disabling a jailbreaking exploit and its variants.

A spokesman from the company declined to give any details about the upgrade but they did give this comment to BBC News: “Since this is an overall security related issue, we will not be providing further commentary to this case.
