Taare Zameen Par is a rare emotional treat that traverses through the life of an eight-year-old dyslexic kid Ishaan Awasthi (Darsheel Safary). His struggle at school, with the kids in his colony, his spate with his father, his confessions to his elder brother and the trust he shares with his mother forms the backbone of the first half of the movie. He ends up in a boarding school.

In the second half, his life goes through a transformation after a new art teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh (Aamir Khan) joins the school. His teaching ways are unconventional to the school. He realizes the struggles Ishaan was going through, and helps Ishaan to discover his strengths.

Unlike other Bollywood movies, the songs of this movie are not the usual running around the trees, but fits the story well. The subtitles for the songs work well, but no translation can do justice to the original lyrics in Hindi.

Also stars the kid-actor Tanay Chheda, who played the 10 year old Jamal in "Slumdog Millionaire", as a class-mate of Ishaan.
