FPW3: three down, one more to go

KARACHI, April 9: Three's a lucky number for Fashion Pakistan Week 3 under way in Karachi as Day Three opened with the showcase designs of Shamaeel Ansari who improvised on the shalwar kameeze and the churi-dars with a modern twist. The designer who believes that the year 2012 is the year to express one's individuality put a colour palette of ivory, black and orange with exquisite hand-embroidered stoles and kameezes worked in silver mukesh and gota, crochet, sequins offset by silk thread embroidery on self-print shirts and more.

Anita Cheema and Chanda Ehsan of Baani D showed a collection based along ethnic lines in a variety of textured fabric with Sania Saeed as the showstopper.

Showing for the first time at the Fashion Pakistan platform, acclaimed and reclusive menswear designer Ahmed Bham with close attention to detail has become the designer of choice by Karachi's elite. Nomi Ansari was the show opener in this segment in a sky-blue pinstripe jacket with a summer feel to the cuts and colours in raw-finish fabric. Paisley pants in earthen tones on model Abbas Jaffri, dapper-looking models in dark suits that is the hallmark of the brand that is Bham and light daywear suits defined the collection immaculately as well as impeccably.

Monsoon and Accessorize represented by Anushka Paracha in Pakistan started with a girl show and went on to show vibrant casual wear.

Film actress Meera, Member of National Assembly Khushbakht Shujaat and former

ambassador Zia Ispahani were given token of appreciation in the post-interval slot before Maheen's pret line Gulabo put up a good show with models in biker's helmets embellished with Gulabo motifs and showed all things Pakistani. The collection was fun, frisky and funky, and meant for 9 to 99 year olds still young at heart.

Wadra Saleem showed a folklore-inspired collection based on the character of Marvi and had models in the traditional colours of Sindh seeped in tradition with fusionistic cuts and prints. The overall collection remained modern yet with a strong connection to the past and impeccable styling with footwear that had ankle-bells strapped to them.

With adjectives such as daring and innovative used to describe the bad boy of fashion that is Rizwanullah, he showed a mixed collection for both sexes that was a tamed-down version of what he is usually known for: edgy designer wear. But it was wearable in terms of long, flowy silhouettes in solid colours and loud prints.

Nomi Ansari was the last designer to show on Day Three by putting forth a collection that focused on the real stars such as Maheen Khan in full black Shamaeel Ansari in ash-grey, stylist Rukaiya Adamjee in green and TV actresses Hina Dilpazeer and Maria Wasti in fetching hues of green followed by a bevy of beautiful sirens and handsome men and culminating with Frieha Altaf and Saba Ansari in fluorescent pinks. Avesha Omer, Adnan Siddiqui, Sadia Imam, Ahmed Butt, Nadia Hussain, Nida Yasir, Nighat Misbah and finally, Meera.
