20% of Americans Without Health Insurance

Nearly 20% of the American population, or 60 million people, lost their health insurance at some point in time starting January 2008.american-health-care

The statistics came from the National Health Interview Survey of the National Center for Health Statistics of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Further, two-thirds of these affected citizens are unemployed working-age adults. Hispanics, men and young adults are among those most affected.

These data came at a crucial time since the Democratic senators are still trying to struggle to pass health reform legislation which is the current top domestic goal of President Barack Obama. He wants to overhaul the country’s $2.5 trillion health care system.

Meanwhile, children participation in health care insurance increased from 34% to 37%. 8% of who lost the insurance at some point during the same period. About 60% of adults above 64 years old and unemployed also don’t have health insurance.
